Youth struggle

The Youth team lost a second consecutive league game and never really deserved to get anything from the game. Wem were the more dominate and played to the pitch conditions far better. Wellington created few chances through out the game and were very disappointed with the goals conceded. We now have to get back to the early season form to keep ourselves in the race and what will be a tight league. Final result 3-0

Youth team finish with nine

In a game that was anticipated to be flowing football between two top sides, it ended up being dominated by a referee who was intent on doing his best to spoil the game( I unable to make any further comments).
With a gusting wind it proved difficult for both sides but each team was trying to play decent passing football. Amateurs were first to try and take the lead with a shot from Chris Airey which skimmed the top of the bar. Hanwood then created a couple of chances but were unable to take. Then in the 8 min a through ball caught the Amateurs on the back foot and the Hanwood player slotted home from inside the box. It was then a pretty even game until shortly before half time an attempted clearence header from a cross was turned into his own net from Shaun Davies which made the score 2-0 at half time. the Amateurs came out in the second half with the wind in their backs and right from the start Hanwood were under pressure and a couple of scrambles in the box went Hanwoods way and they were able to clear. The Hanwood keeper also made a couple of decents saves. Hanwood were also creating chances in what was becoming an open game has the Amateurs chased the game. Then a penalty was awarded to the Amateurs and Chris James slotted home with the second attempt after it was retaken. Then a couple of minutes later it looked like Amateurs had secured a point when Shaun Davies rose above a defender to score with his head only for the goal to be ruled out for a push which only the referee seemed to see!! Then Hanwood on the stroke of full time secured the points with a well taken goal. All credit to both teams who played some terrific football and maybe a draw would have been a fair result but it means the league is again tight with the Amateurs losing their first league game of the season. Next weeks game at Wem Youth now becomes very importent to get back on the right track.

Dissapointing defeat

Today in the SFA Cup saw the first defeat for the youth team this season in all competitions. In a match that the Amateurs controlled for long periods the final finish was never really there today. The team started brightly and created a number of chances in the first half but with lack of composure in front of goal and a couple of decent saves from the Bridgnorth keeper the teams went in at half time 0-0. The second half was a similer story but on the 60th min a shot from a Bridgnorth player from a full 30yds out caught the Amateurs off guard and the ball hit the top corner of the net. A wounderfull goal to grace any game at any level. The Amateurs then started pushing for the equaliser and again lack of composure meant it was going to be a frustrating afternoon for the lads. The game finished 1-0 to Bridgnorth and all credit to them for the backs to the wall, fighting display that they showed and good luck to them in the next round.

Sun shines on the Youth

The Youth team were away to Shifnal Town in a match between the early front runners of the division with first playing second. In what was a tight affair in the first half, chances were at a premium. Will Parton had a chance after a ball over the top for him to use his pace but the keeper was able to smother the shot. A couple of half chances fell but the Amateurs were unable to take any advantage. The Amateurs were certanly the better side in the first half and were playing some neat football and restricting Shifnal long range efforts. In the second half the game was a similer start but Amateurs were starting to create better chances and Jay Barnett was given a through ball and managed to put it over the on coming keepers head but it went agonisingly wide. Theo Asare then found himself in some space but was unable to take advantage. Then in the 73rd minute Jay picked the ball up and ran at the single defender who he rounded and the Shifnal player stook a leg out to bring Jay down. A penalty was awarded and Chris James slotted home for what was the winning goal.Shifnal had a break and with one defender and our keeper,Dan Vaughan to beat he started to go around Dan who had no choice but to impede the player and a penalty was awarded. Dan guessed the right way and managed to get his finger tips to push it on to the post in what was an excellant reaction save. The players were all tremendous today and credit has to go to everyone involved for their dogged nature and the passion and commitment shown. All credit to Shifnal who refused to give up and played to the final whistle giving us a couple of scares towards the end.
